Coughing in public is what we normally hear especially now that the weather is unpredictable and pollution is becoming worse, making us are more prone to diseases, still even if coughing is common to hear, people who cough in public especially when surrounded by people should be mindful so as to contain the disease. There are respectful ways even in the simplest way to avoid air contamination that may lead to others getting infected as well. Proper etiquette should be practiced in always. Coughing etiquette is not a standard but it is a better way to discuss how we can represent ourselves in a respectful way even when we cough.
The number one thing to do and never ever for any reason forget, COVER YOUR MOUTH when you cough. Diseases like colds are highly contagious and people around you can easily get contaminated through the air they breathe. If you cough without covering your mouth the disease is easily transmitted through the air thus catching its next victim. People with coughs and colds tend to sneeze a lot, and when that happens, it is best to sneeze into your elbow instead of your hands. The reason for this is because when you sneeze into your hands the disease is transferred to it immediately and in most cases you won’t be able to sanitize or wash your hands as soon as possible, by sneezing into your elbow you contain the disease, but still the best way is to have a towel, handkerchief or tissue with you to use instead of your body part.

Wash and sanitize your hands as much as possible. Not only does our hands touch many germs daily even if we don’t know it, our hands are also carriers of diseases that can easily be transmitted through one person to another. Washing and sanitizing your hands can help limit and prevent unnecessary infections to yourself and to others. Also, if you have colds or cough, try to avoid shaking hands, though it may feel disrespectful it is necessary, but if you really need to just be sure that you have washed and sanitized prior to shaking other peoples hands.

Lastly, save yourself the shame of coughing, sneezing, and looking sick if really, you are sick. Think about your well-being and think about what harm you can do to others. These illnesses is serious matter and getting well as soon as possible should be your number one priority, it affects anyone who is caught and can hinder with ones daily life, so if you know and feel you are not alright, rest and stay at home, that is also a proper etiquette attitude to keep in mind.
