Below are some tips on how you can care for your teeth:

  • Brush your teeth regularly. If possible, after every meal or if not twice a day. This is to prevent any build up of acid from the breakdown of food by bacteria. Another option you can do if you are outside is to rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash. To properly brush your teeth, use a back and forth and up and down motion. Do not push to hard to avoid gum bleeding and remember to also brush the surface of your tongue. Proper brushing usually takes up to two minutes.
  • There are some cases that a person cannot floss due to sensitive gums; you may consult your dentist on this. For those with normal gums, flossing is essential. By flossing, food particles that were not removed through brushing can be eliminated to avoid any bacteria build up or cavities. Flossing is recommended at least once a day.

  • Choose and limit some food items. The culprits include sodas, coffee, alcohol and sugar. The said beverages contains phosphorous which is a mineral for a healthy mouth but too much consumption of this can lower the level of calcium in our bodies which can cause dental problems including tooth decay. Also, some beverages contain additives that can discolor our teeth.
  • Drink your milk and other healthy foods. Milk, orange juice, yogurt, broccoli and cheese contain calcium for our teeth and bones. Consuming plenty of calcium rich foods can help make our teeth healthy.
